Who Am I?

About-JimHi, I’m Jim and I guess I am an ultra runner. I find it difficult to apply that label to myself when I see what so many other athletes are accomplishing. I ran my first marathon in 1999 after starting running earlier that year. I was never interested in shorter races and had only done one 10k prior to my first marathon.

Today I’ve completed several road and trail marathons, many trail runs of 50k to 50 miles, and one 100 mile ultra in 2021. I DNF’d my 2nd 100 attempt in 2023 but am training for the next one already!

When training for that first road marathon I fell in love with the long run. To this day I still feel as though the fun doesn’t start until you pass the 10-mile mark.

My day job is helping software developers create applications to solve business problems. Just a normal guy, trying to fit many hours of training into an already full schedule. I’ve been doing so for many years, lots of them when I had children at home. I hope I’ve learned a little that can help you enjoy your trail running, training, and racing adventures. That said, there is always something new to learn and share.

If you like what you see I hope you’ll come back and spread the word.

Thanks for visiting the site.

Jim

Why are you here and why should you stay?

You likely landed on this site because of a search, or clicking on a link somewhere in the social media world related to trail running. Regardless of how, I hope you will view some of my content and decide to stay; maybe you will find enough value to sign up for our newsletter for updates and to know when I publish something new.

What’s here?

I love doing BIG runs and adventures, mostly on trails. I love the process of finding interesting races to run, planning my own, and training for them. I especially like the training process and everything that goes into preparing yourself, mind and body, for doing something you’re not certain you can complete. Something you may be afraid to even try. This is what I call “Doing your Epic.”

“Epic” isn’t the same for everyone. What’s epic for someone who has been running for years may be a 50k, 50-mile, or 100-mile run. What’s epic for someone just starting might be a 5k or 10k. Epic is relative to the person attempting the feat.

I’d like to be your inspiration and guide to accomplish something great, something you aren’t sure you can achieve but want to try. I hope to inspire you by being an example of someone who is striving to obliterate their perceived limits, and by providing information to help with motivation, education, and problem-solving. Anything you need to help you push your limits. Said another way…Do! You’rEpic!
